I was born and raised on Long Island NY. I'm loud, fiery, opinionated, but I also have a sweet side. I volunteer a lot, teaching disabled kids to swim, volunteering at the animal shelter, etc. I'm on the dean's list at UNC CH, so I'm smart as hell. I also like anime, and I love almost anything Asian. What I'm really looking for is a guy who doesn't try to control me. He just lets me be who I am and accepts my faults. I'm tired of all those jerks who judge me, just because I'm cute and blonde doesn't mean I'm a preppy brainless lemming. I have a thirst for knowledge, I love to travel and explore new cultures. I am extremely competitive in all areas and I'm up for any kind of athletic activity. (I can't resist any sort if test or challenge, which means I keep taking all the tests on here. I really like things that give me immediate feedback.) I have high standards for others, but also myself. I don't think people should settle in life, you should go after what you want and achieve it, and make no excuses.

I'm very passionate about what I feel, and I believe in complete honesty (although to be totally honest, I don't always succeed in that regard). I never have a problem with someone telling me what they really think. I'm actually more offended if they don't. I think the only way we can improve ourselves in life is if we are open to criticism. Passion, honesty, independence, intelligence (and no, loving the crossword puzzle or knowing the difference between your and you're doesn't make you intelligent, it just makes you not dumb...please, have some higher level thinking skills about topics that range beyond simple coffee shop bullshit), humor, and loyalty are all qualities I admire in others and try to emulate. I can and do attempt to make a joke about nearly anything. No subject is taboo, and I tend to be pretty sarcastic nearly all the time.

I am a bit of a mess. I have trouble keeping things organized and I am often late, although I am improving steadily. I tend to procrastinate. I figure that's important to know up front, because there's no sense hiding the truth. I am a big proponent of the truth, even though sometimes it's uncomfortable. I like Keats' line, "Beauty is truth, and truth beauty, and that is all ye need to know." I want to find someone that I feel comfortable enough with that we are comfortable being completely honest with each other, and given the things that people REALLY think, that's actually more difficult than it seems.

Oh, and I also kind of wear my emotions on my sleeve at times, which makes for an interesting time of things. I can sometimes let my passions overwhelm my logic, even when I know in the end things will end up badly for me. When I want something, I go after it. But hey, what's life without taking chances, right?

I was doing some thinking after being prompted, and thought about the fact that all of my strongly held beliefs, attitudes, and opinions about who I am and what I want in life may be completely off. I usually see things in life very black and white, right or wrong, good or bad, up or down. I have no reason to change my mind about anything, but I became aware of the frequency in life with which we DO change our minds about things that are seemingly incontrivertable. It's just a human quality, for the most part. So I open myself up to the idea that those things I think I know and desire may in fact not be true in the future, for whatever that's worth.

I'm a 21 year old senior at UNC, studying history and creative writing. I love improv and comedy in general - humor is usually how I relate to other people.

My name is Julia and I'm 19. I grew up in the mountains near Asheville and I love it there. The mountains have a pull on me that I've never felt anywhere else. After high school I took a year before college and went on foreign exchange to Argentina and had a great time there. Now I'm at UNC studying Spanish and art.

I graduated from NC State with Chemical Engineering and English degrees, and now I'm in law school at Chapel Hill. I have now worked for a law firm. Can't decide if this is good or bad.

I'm a music lover--primarily indie rock and rap, since it's federally mandated that skinny white guys must like indie rock and rap. I'm growing to appreciate the local music scene more these days although it seems like the Triangle music scene consists of like 10 bands, tops. Also kind of a foodie, despite being a terrible cook. I wrote a solid 10-page memoir piece about this for a class once.

I usually have a fascination with a particular celebrity that rotates pretty regularly. It's currently Ron Bennington of the Ron and Fez show on Sirius XM.

I got really into politics in like December of 07 and I try to stay involved with it. I get the NPR Planet Money podcast--does that count? Also next year I'm taking a class entitled Global Financial Markets (AKA ANCIENT HISTORY AM I RIGHT)

My favorite Jelly Belly flavor is the sour purple kind but caramel apple is closing the gap. My favorite milk is whole. My favorite monthly Raleigh event is First Friday. I still don't really know any Chapel Hill events outside the law school, which is profoundly depressing. My favorite type of bowling is Wii Bowling. My favorite dead language is Sanskrit. Being in the woods in the middle of nowhere with live music, people, creativity run amuck, and partying creates a kind of group connectivity...it's got to be friendly with simple rules like - No weapons or fireworks. - Hurt No One. - Remember The Law Of Gravity. Musicians, happy people, and jokesters are everywhere. It trancends everyday experience and is perceived as one large experience. Much like a shared dreamspace amongst many good friends. Recently i've gotten really into speed (as a concept of mobility mind you), and am curious how to accelerate the world through aesthetic intensities. Sometimes this means i sprint after squirrels, but i haven't caught one yet, so there is work to be done.

I am a poet, social justice activist, journalist, vegan, atheist among many other things.

I'm a 23-year-old quasi-hippie, lounging my way through an undergrad BS in psychology before embarking on the epic journey that is grad school for clinical psychology (clinical neuropsychology, to be precise). Right now I tutor 9th grade high school students in every subject, as well as doing some ebay-trading. I'm in no hurry to get my PhD and am more focused on living life than "winning" life. I'm a naturalistic pantheist, as most good people tend to be (ha!), and I take it more seriously than one might expect from this ex-atheist. My interests are largely academic, and span a large portion of academia. If it's intellectually stimulating, I'm interested in it.

It's really hard for me to summarize myself in a few paragraphs. I'm way too long-winded to make this actually sound interesting, but I guess I'll give it a try. . . I'm pretty laid back and I tend to get along with most people. I don't have any enemies that I know of. Honestly, there's not really anyone in my life that I even dislike. I guess the best way to put it is that I hate drama and don't want it to have any part in my life. I'm a bit weird, slightly awkward, and very dorky, but proud of it. I'm also probably one of the clumsiest people you'll ever meet. At the very least, you'll have something to laugh at when I'm around.

I'm a professional dog groomer and salon manager, which in essence is a pretty good job. I get paid to play with dogs all day, which is nice, but it's hard to not feel a bit overworked and underappreciated every once in a while. But at the end of the day, it's alright and it works, for now.

My kind of strange passion in life is pez dispensers. I started collecting in the tenth grade and now I'm up to about 450 dispensers. My collection hasn't grown a whole lot in the last few years - you could probably blame that on the whole having to be an adult with rent and bills to pay thing, but I'm proud of what I've got.

I have a BS in Biology from UNC Chapel Hill. It hasn't gotten me a job yet, but at least I have a pretty diploma hanging in my living room.

I went through a tattoo and piercing phase in my late teens and early twenties. As a result, I have six tattoos, two of which I'm not that found of anymore.

Remember when I said I was clumsy? Well, here's an example. I once cut the tip of my finger off while grooming a shih tzu. It bled a lot . . . and the dog was white - not a good combination.

Of everywhere I've traveled, Utah has been my favorite place. Zion National Park has the most amazing scenery of anywhere I've ever been.

As a kid, I absolutely hated the color pink. Now I love it. It's a really good color. I've been a tomboy most of my life, but I think that I'm trying to embrace being a girl now. It's still a little weird, but I'm getting there.

I refuse to choose between the mountains and the beach. I love them both.

I'm a pretty laid back guy. I love sports and playing college football had a huge impact on my life (even though I'm a big nerd). At times I can be really goofy and ridiculous, but I am almost always stubborn. Arguing is one of my favorite pastimes, regardless of the topic. Although I hate to admit it, I'm turning into my father. I believe that excellence can be found in any task, and it always deserves to be recognized. If I'm not going out with friends, I enjoy cooking, playing video games, and watching movies in my free time. Some of my favorite movies are wonderfully awful sci-fi/action movies. I love road trips with great company and enjoy seeing new places. I grew up in South Florida and definitely miss the beach.

Of that 35%, 10% are gay (which is totally fine..just not helping me out on the dating scene) and 10% are taken. That leaves the dating pool to about 15% male to 65% female. This doesn't seem fair. I really am not expecting to find much online... but maybe it is one step up from a bar?
I want the whole nine yards-- attractive, funny, intelligent, ambitious. Yeah, i know, hard. Impossible? I choose to think that it isn't.

Where to begin?
I love to be outdoors in my free time and try to stay fairly active. I hike, mountain bike, and surf as much as I can. I'm not one of those naturally sporty girls, meaning I usually stay at the "advanced beginner" stage of a lot of this stuff- but I have fun. I also like to travel and feel like it's a vital part of a full and interesting life. I've been lucky enough to have visited several countries and most of the U.S. I try to go somewhere new each year... this year it was Costa Rica, beautiful! Getting away for smaller day trips to the beach or mountains is nice too. It's kind of a cliche, but I feel like you only live once so you might as well make the most of it and try to have fun. I want to see and do as much as I can in my time here, otherwise what's the point?

A few more random bits about me in no particular order:
I like to cook (well, mainly eat).
I love to see live music of pretty much any type, especially outdoors in the summer!
I like the idea of constantly learning throughout my life so the idea of going back to school to do something completely different at some point isn't entirely unappealing.
I just bought a house so my free time is feeling pretty scarce lately.
I work a lot, but I like what I do.
I'm a social person: I like going out to eat, parties, meeting new people, etc but find that as I get older there's less and less of this.
Even though I try to stay busy, I definitely can take time to veg out on the couch sometimes... lately kinda addicted to Entourage.
I'm fairly low maintenance, but definitely have a girly side: sundresses, hair, spa-type stuff. I like to be pretty :)

I am a fun loving, kind, creative & adventurous, compassionate and caring, with old romantic values. I learned from past relationships that you have to have a foundation of common interests and values, and that love and passion are not enough by themselves to make a relationship work in the long run. Hmmmm, let's see, how about an honest, open and willing individual who is awake, witty and light-hearted. An easy-going person who wears life as she would a loose garment, comfortably (not comfortably numb). Someone who has experience facing fears, independent, trusting and accepting. A genuine person with an agenda in life yet, posseses the ability to compromise. OK, ANYONE NOT IN A COMA! Please be brave, courage is a muscle that must be exercised!

I'm a UNC junior who is excited to see what life has ahead of me! I enjoy simple things: hanging with friends, tv shows, films, non-fiction, driving around, music turned up loud. I'm planning on going into social work. I want to find a nice place to relocate to after school, and just be! I want to breathe in fresh air and still hear the bustle of the city around me. I'm idealistic, but who cares?

I am an honest, caring and loyal woman. I have an almost scary level of integrity. I am a single mother with a teenage daughter. I do not smoke, drink or do drugs (EVER). In fact, I do not know many people who are involved in the latter two. I am a hard worker and care about my family & friends. I love to laugh and keep things light. I love the NFL and hate Lifetime. I enjoy the beach and the mountains. I even love staying home with a good book now and again. I am willing to try new things and am looking to meet lots of people. I like getting flowers for no other reason than I think they are pretty (Isn't that enough of a reason). I love to get dressed up, but I am also practical. i.e., if it is raining or over 90% humidity I am not going to waste my time fixing my hair!

I work hard and laugh a lot. I think I have, somehow, found a balance of being passionate and laid back simultaneously. I can be shy until comfortable, but not always.
I am a sucker for a good story.
I love going on adventures and appreciate enthusiasm.
I am, also, a horrific klutz and try really hard not to get run over on my bike, "caliente" (It came with the name and a matching pink helmet with dinosaur stickers) So far I've gotten a lot of honks and sympathetic and concerned looks but no ER visits.

I'm generally a laid-back person; I go with the flow. Even if something upsets me, I rarely hold a grudge, and will probably be over it the next day. I have a random sense of humor; I do find some things hilarious that others find awkward. However, my humor is also sarcastic, so sometimes my jokes can be a little sharp. But I also turn that humor on myself, I often make self-deprecating jokes. Another thing I will admit is that I'm rather passive when it comes to talking to people. In other words, I'm not the person who will randomly go up to someone and strike up a conversation, I prefer people to come to me to talk. I hope that doesn't sound pretentious, I'm just kinda introverted.
Music is important to me. I spent 7 years in band (trumpet, woo!) and I almost decided to major in music because of it. I miss playing so much...
I'm also passionate about LGBTQ rights. Coming from a small, conservative Baptist town, learning about civil rights was rather difficult. At UNC, there are plenty of opportunities to learn about LGBTQ rights on a multitude of levels. So participating in events and reading books about queer theory for classes takes up a lot of my time.
