The basketball team and the girls' football team are two dominant programs for UNC, while the other is emerging quickly. All three are in the NC triangle, and that is why they compete so strongly. Chapel Hill is actually closer to Cary, which has a population of 150,000, than Raleigh, the capital of North Carolina.

Chapel Hill is also home to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, which happens to be the largest public university in the United States and the second largest in North America. This gives you an idea of why college dominates all sports and why it hates rival Duke so much. This city has a large number of restaurants, theaters and performing arts venues, as well as a high school and college. It reopened in September after a major renovation and took the top spot as the average SAT score - ranking North Charlotte Public School District.
The team hatched Michael Jordan's world - changing talents, and for years the Tar Heels passed rivals Duke, one of the best teams in the country and the second-best team in North America.

On Thursday night, listen to local acts and watch Carrboro's free outdoor gigs at Weaver Street Market or Saturday night's live concerts at Chapel Hill Civic Center.

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has approximately 2,690 faculty serving more than 2.5 million students from over 100 countries, with approximately 4,500 undergraduate students and approximately 3,000 student members. The five health schools and UNC hospitals make up the largest health care system in the United States and are grouped under the umbrella of the UNC Health System, the largest public health system in the nation. The UNC College of Agricultural and Natural Resources Sciences and the Department of Agriculture were founded at the university in 1904. In 1924, an expansion office was established to make the university a national leader in agricultural research, education and expansion services.
